Ethanol could be grabbing the attention of tens of
thousands as they look to the skies over Peoria this weekend. Fagen
Inc., the company dominating the upper Midwest in designing and
building ethanol plants, is sponsoring the Edge 540, today's premier
aerobatic aircraft, piloted by Greg Poe, one of aviation's most
noted aerobatic performers.

The Edge 540 takes a low-mix ethanol.
Poe, a true believer in ethanol, is awaiting his new aerobatic
airplane, under construction, that will use 100 percent ethanol. He
said that he has spent some time getting to know more about ethanol,
and it is cleaner burning, lower cost and provides the greater power
for the high-performance flying that he does. The motto on the side
of his aircraft says it all: "Ethanol kicks gas!"
The aviation industry, like the automotive industry, is currently
more actively preparing to make changes. Most of the aviation
industry, if not all of the major aircraft and engine manufacturers,
are moving toward production using renewable fuel. The movement is
not new, but has been slow to catch on until now.

Maybe, as the entire nation looks at current and future concerns
of dependence on foreign oil and its dwindling supply, the industry
will finally turn that corner toward the use of renewable fuels.
Fagen Inc. will be constructing the ethanol plant that Illini
Bio-Energy has been approved to construct at Hartsburg in the near
future.
