Middletown students head back to the classrooms Aug. 21          Send a link to a friend

[JULY 31, 2006]  MIDDLETOWN -- Opening day for students in grades K-8 will be Aug. 21, beginning at 8:10 a.m., with dismissal at 11:30 a.m. Rural bus schedules will be as close to the same as last year as possible. Parents should allow a 10-minute deviation from the projected schedule. Parents are asked to bring their kindergarten children on the first day to aid the bus schedule.

Registration -- Grades K-8 can register Aug. 10. Registration will be in Middletown from noon to 7 p.m.

Kindergarten -- Students registering for kindergarten must have a current physical, current shot record on file and bring a copy of their birth certificate at the time of registration. Regular dismissal for kindergarten students will be at 1:15 p.m., unless there is an early dismissal day; then it is at 2 p.m. Bus services will be provided both ways for kindergarten.

Kindergarten, second and sixth grades -- All Illinois children in these grades are required by law to have a dental examination.

Fifth grade -- Students entering the fifth grade must have a current physical on file, a current MMR shot and be up-to-date on their hepatitis shots. This must be done prior to Oct. 1.

Book rental -- Grades K-8, $50.

Insurance fees -- School insurance information will be available at the time of registration. Any student participating in sports or cheerleading must have proof of insurance and a current physical on file.

Hot lunch -- Grades K-8, $1.80; adults, $1.80.

Extra milk will be 25 cents per half-pint. Extra milk or milk breaks are not included in the book rental or the hot lunch fees. There will be a milk break each day for students in grades K-4. There will be a maximum of five milk or lunch charges at any given time.

Workshop -- A district workshop for all teachers is scheduled for Aug. 18, beginning at 8:30 a.m., in Middletown.
