Central Illinois projects get $3.5 million in federal transportation funds   Send a link to a friend

[JUNE 16, 2006]  WASHINGTON -- By a 406-22 vote, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the fiscal 2007 appropriations bill Wednesday for the departments of Transportation, Treasury, and Housing and Urban Development. This bill contains over $3.5 million in projects requested by U.S. Rep. Ray LaHood, R-Peoria, and it now heads to the Senate for consideration.

The projects listed below are included in the legislation and were requested by the 18th District congressman.
  • $1,000,000 from the Department of Transportation for improvements to roads within Springfield's Oak Ridge Cemetery.

  • $1,000,000 from the Department of Transportation for Twin Bridge Road in Decatur.  This project will provide a safer roadway approach to areas adjacent to the Decatur Airport.

  • $500,000 in economic development funds from the Department of Housing and Urban Development for the planning, design and construction of the Central Illinois Regional Museum in Peoria.

  • $500,000 in economic development funds from the Department of Housing and Urban Development for Glen Oak Zoo in Peoria for construction of a new exhibit.

  • $250,000 in economic development funds from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to Illinois College in Jacksonville for the renovation of Whipple Hall.

  • $250,000 in economic development funds from the Department of Housing and Urban Development for the continued construction of the Peoria Next Innovation Center in Peoria.
