[MARCH 13, 2006]  SPRINGFIELD -- Illinois' leading Asian soybean rust experts met this morning (Monday) in the Illinois Department of Agriculture auditorium to plan for the 2006 growing season. The team of experts discussed the potential for rust making its way to Illinois this year and reviewed the state's plan to identify and control the potentially devastating fungal disease.

Committee members received a status report on the most recent rust confirmations in the United States and reviewed procedures for scouting and testing for the disease. Members also heard reports on the fungicides approved to treat soybean rust, fungicide availability this growing season, pesticide regulations and sentinel plots.
