Teen driver causes head-on crash

[MARCH 14, 2006]  SPRINGFIELD -- Jason D. Gowen, 18, of Mason City was driving a 1995 Dodge southbound on Illinois Route 29 one-tenth mile south of Buckhorn Road at 7:24 p.m. on Monday. His vehicle left the southbound lane and crossed into the northbound lane into the path of Christine Perry, 53, of Springfield, who was northbound. She was driving a 1996 Chevrolet.

Gowen's vehicle struck Perry's vehicle head-on in the northbound lane.

Gowen's passengers were David J. Plackett, 17, San Jose; Allister D. Macintosh, 14, Mason City; Nicole L. Bowersock, 16, Mason City; and Travis A. Williams, 20, Springfield.

All involved in the accident were transported to Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

Gowen was cited for improper lane usage, violation of the graduated driver's license law and failure to restrain or seat belt a person under age 16.

Perry was cited for operation of an uninsured motor vehicle.

Illinois State Police, Sangamon County Sheriff's Department and Lifestar Ambulance attended to the accident
