Logan County Health Department

Lincoln and Logan County recognize the Logan County Health Department celebrating 35 years on Tuesday, April 4.

Short-term loan

Board members agreed to take out up to $600,000 in tax anticipation warrants to be used by the county if they are needed for this year.

Tourism expense covered

Two years ago the Abraham Lincoln Tourism Bureau asked the county for extra funds to make a move. The bureau, the Lincoln/Logan County Chamber of Commerce and the Lincoln & Logan County Development Partnership moved from a rented downtown office complex to their own building at the corner of Fifth Street and Lincoln Parkway.

The tourism bureau's portion of renovations to the building was $30,000. A letter from the board indicated that the county would fund the move at $5,000 per year, this fiscal year being the second year to do that.

Finance chairman Chuck Ruben apologized to the new tourism director, Geoff Ladd. Ruben said the letter was poorly worded. It was clearly stated to the former director, Celeste Rogers, when it was issued that the board intended to fulfill the request all six years but that it would be a year-to-year commitment, as they cannot commit for future boards. He recognized there was no way for Ladd to know about that.

Ruben also apologized that the additional funding was merely forgotten about when budgeting was done last fall.

Discretionary funds from farm income were allocated to cover this year, and a commitment was made for next year as well. The current board cannot commit beyond next year, as it will be a decision for the new board members.
