[MARCH 29, 2006]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, at 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Veterans Administration new hours

A representative from the Veterans Administration will be at The Oasis library every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. No appointment necessary. Service is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Meeters and Greeters

The Oasis will host the Meeters and Greeters meeting at 2 p.m. Monday. Anyone interested in joining the group may drop by then. This group of volunteers visits people who cannot travel and attend activities, to add a bright spot in their life.

Oasis belles

The Oasis Red Hat group will meet Tuesday at 11 a.m. Lunch will be available at 11:30 a.m. Please call for a lunch reservation by noon Monday.

Tuesday lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for April 4 will feature butter dill chicken, white potatoes, salad, bread and butter, dessert, and a drink for only $3.75, or $3.25 if you stay and play cards. Reservation deadline is noon Monday.

Rules of the Road

The secretary of state's office continues to offer a Rules of the Road course free of charge to all interested parties. Locally, the course is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday at the senior center. The course is designed to help you become a better and safer driver and to assist individuals who may have to take a written exam or the behind-the-wheel test.

Hearing screening

The Oasis will have free hearing checks April 5 between 10 a.m. and noon. Call 732-6132 to schedule an appointment.

Winners for the week announced

Mina Bradburn and Betty Oltmanns were the weekday pinochle winners. The weekend pinochle winners were Tom Garrison and Eileen Kohl. Winners at five-in-one were Judy Morrow, Ella Lee Graney and Dorothy Oltmanns. Congratulations, winners.
