[MAY 31, 2006]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, at 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Light lunch bingo

Maple Ridge Care Centre will sponsor the light lunch at The Oasis at noon Thursday. Bingo will begin at 1 p.m. Come join the fun and win a prize!

Senior Health Insurance Program

The Oasis, with the Senior Health Insurance Program, sponsors assistance to seniors with their insurance forms. The volunteers are trained by the Department of Insurance to guide seniors through problems involving Medicare, Medicare supplement, long-term care insurance, retiree health plans, claims processing and appealing denied claims. The free service is offered every Thursday between 2 and 3:30 p.m. To schedule an appointment, please call 732-6132.

Blood pressure checks

The Oasis offers free blood pressure checks every Friday between 10 and 11:30 a.m. No appointment is necessary.

Meeters and Greeters

The Meeters and Greeters group will meet Monday at the senior center, beginning at 2 p.m. This group of volunteers makes monthly visits to those who cannot get out, to add a bright spot in their life. If you would like to participate or would like more information, call 732-6132.

Oasis belles

The Oasis Red Hat group will meet Tuesday, beginning at 11 a.m. Please call 732-6132 by noon Monday to make lunch reservations. Put on your red hat and come join this lively bunch of ladies!

Tuesday lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for June 6 features grilled chicken, macaroni salad, carrots, bread and butter, dessert and a drink for only $3.75, or $3.25 if you stay and play cards. Reservation deadline is 4 p.m. Monday.

Rules of the Road

The secretary of state's office continues to offer a Rules of the Road course free of charge to all interested parties. A local session is scheduled for Tuesday, beginning at 1 p.m., at the senior center. The course is designed to assist individuals who may have to take a written exam or the behind-the-wheel test.

Hearing screening

The Oasis will have free hearing checks June 7, between 10 a.m. and noon. To schedule an appointment, please call 732-6132.

Winners for the week announced

Helen Stephenson and Linda Hughes were weekday pinochle winners. The weekend pinochle winners were Irene Tumilty and Linda Hughes. The winners at five-in-one were Ella Lee Graney and Linda Hughes. Congratulations.
