CANDIDATE'S STATEMENT:
Rebecca Drake announced her candidacy
for Logan County Board, District 3 about a year ago at the behest of
the Logan County Democrats and "hit the ground running". Since she
had run for State Representative in 1988, she has had campaigning
experience. Since her announcement, she has been vigorously
campaigning around District 3, which encompasses Mt. Pulaski
precincts 1, 2, 3, and 4, Laenna, Aetna, Lake Fork, and Chester
townships.
Rebecca Drake, age 59, has 25 plus
years in the social services field, beginning as the first Executive
Director for Oasis Senior Citizen's Center as she was completing her
Master's Degree at University of Illinois, Springfield (formerly SSU).
Her degrees are in Child, Family, and Community Services. Drake also
earned certification in Drug and Alcohol Treatment at Triangle
Center in Springfield. She retired two years ago from AFSCME Council
31 as an Employee Assistance Counselor for union-represented state
employees, including members from Logan County. Presently she is a
Teacher's Aide in Special Ed at Mt. Pulaski Grade School.
"I intend to keep tight control on
taxes Logan County", stated the candidate. "With higher gasoline
prices and soon, higher utility bills, most people need to watch
their out-of-pocket expenses. We cannot compound their problems with
higher taxes."

One of the reasons Rebecca Drake
agreed to campaign for a board seat in a highly Republican county
were complaints that she repeatedly heard from constituents. "I
promise that I will return phone calls and remain highly assessable
in the district", she noted.
Drake has always been active in her
community. She is a member or volunteer for American Red Cross
(Disaster Team), Hospice of Illinois (VNA), Mt. Pulaski United
Methodist Church (Choir), Mt. Pulaski Twp. Historical Society, and
Mt. Pulaski Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Birthday Committee. She was
formerly a President of Mt. Pulaski Junior Woman's Club (GFWC),
Logan County American Association of University Women, and Co-Chair
of the 1976 Mt. Pulaski Bicentennial Celebration.
Drake pledges to support business
development in Logan County, especially agribusiness, that will
protect our prime farmland and environment. She pledges to support
growing tourism trade in District 3. She also pledges to support
county law enforcement against proliferation of meth production and
distribution as well as other drug-related crimes. She will support
programs that provide services to senior citizens.
"I am a Logan County native. I know so
many people and they know me and my family. They know they can talk
with me and share their concerns. I believe I can best represent
District 3 on the Logan County Board", said Drake. She and her
husband, John W., have been married for 40 years and have two adult
daughters and two grandsons. Mr. Drake is a farmer and President of
Bank of Chestnut.
