This is the fifth annual Veteran's Celebration and Recognition Dance
hosted by the St. John United Church of Christ Youth Fellowship. For
the second year, the Adam Larson Quartet will set the mood with
songs from the '30s and '40s. At 6:30, the midpoint of the 5-8 p.m.
program, the band will offer a tribute to each branch of the
military service.
A light meal will be served from 5 to 6 p.m., and cake, punch and
coffee will be offered throughout the evening. Each veteran is
invited to pose for a souvenir photo.
Admission is free to veterans of all branches of the U.S. armed
forces who are living in or were deployed from Logan County.
Invitations have been mailed, but some veterans may have
inadvertently been missed. Anyone knowing a veteran who has not been
reached can call the church office at 732-6957.
Several members of the St. John youth group will wear uniforms
passed down from relatives. Others will help set the mood with
period clothing. Group members say they undertook the project to
show how much they appreciate veterans for their service to fellow
citizens.

Adam Larson, who fronts the band for the evening, began playing
in 2001 and has developed into an in-demand saxophonist in the
intervening five years. Although just 16 years old, he has performed
with many college and professional groups and also has a commercial
single act. Bruce Lane, at piano, earned a music degree in 1981 and
has since played trumpet and piano with a number of jazz and rhythm
and blues groups in central Illinois. Wally Tuchardt, on electric
bass, took up his instrument at age 14 while living in Hong Kong. To
round out the quartet, John Larson, on drums, holds a bachelor's in
music and teaches percussion as well as performing regularly.
Andrew Goetsch of Williamsville is youth chair for the event, and
St. John intern Joey Feldmann is adviser.
