[NOV. 15, 2006]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Medicare Part D enrollment period

The annual open enrollment period for the prescription drug insurance program known as Medicare Part D begins Nov. 15 and ends Dec. 31. The Oasis is offering the services of trained staff to help you and your loved ones make the best possible decisions regarding your prescription drug coverage. All services with this program are free through grants obtained through the Area Agency on Aging for Lincolnland. Caution: The laws and insurance programs have changed for 2007 calendar year. Just because your insurance program worked well in 2006 does not mean it is the correct program for you during 2007. Call 732-6132 to set up a private and confidential appointment to help you with your options.

Extension to sponsor bingo

The Logan County Extension Unit will sponsor the bingo games at the senior center on Thursday, beginning at 1 p.m. Come join the fun and win food prizes.

Alzheimer support group to meet

The Alzheimer support group will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday in the library at the senior center. No reservation is necessary. The group provides support and information for caregivers and extended family and is facilitated by a coordinator from Maple Ridge Care Centre.

Board meeting

The Oasis board will have its November meeting on Thursday, beginning at 5 p.m. The meeting is open to the public. To schedule any agenda time, the board must receive notification in writing on or before the fifth day of the month prior to a meeting date.

Memories class

The Memories class is scheduled to meet at 3:45 p.m. Friday in the senior center's library. Writers are invited to join this lively group to hone their writing skills. No reservations are necessary. Please bring writing material.

The Self Help and Resource Exchange is a food cooperative that is sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Peoria and offers food at reduced prices. November orders will be available for pickup Friday between 4 and 5:30 p.m. at the senior center. People can also stop by for more information about the program, which is open to everyone, regardless of age, faith and income.

November birthday party

Birthday time! Come celebrate November birthdays with us at the senior center. Birthday cake and ice cream are provided by Kroger, and the celebration is sponsored by State Farm, Chris Coyne. The party begins at 1:30 p.m. Monday. There will be games, prizes, entertainment and refreshments. Come join the fun and bring a guest.

Tuesday lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for Nov. 21 will feature beef and broccoli, rice, egg roll, and a dessert for only $3.75, or $3.25 if you stay and play cards. Reservation deadline is noon Monday.

Winners for the week announced

Linda Hughes was the weekday pinochle winner. The weekend pinochle winners were Les Van Bibber and Linda Hughes. Weekend rummy winner was Ruth Barry. The winners at five-in-one were Linda Hughes, Dorothy Oltmanns and Henry Warnisher. Congratulations.
