October

Oct 7, 11, 14, 18, 21, 25, & 28 Farmer’s Market.  Come out to Latham Park in Lincoln, IL to purchase fresh produce from the local growers!  The Market begins at 7 AM and will continue until 12 PM.  Contact 217-732-8687 for more details.

Oct 8  Crop Walk.  Come on out to Latham Park between 2 PM & 4 PM to participate in the annual Crop Walk.  This Church World Service event is being held in honor of the founders, Henry FA Bock and Harold Gockel.  Twenty Percent of all proceeds of the walk will remain in Logan County to benefit CIEDC.  For more information, please call Tonitha Reifsteck at 217-732-9796.

Oct 14  Broadwell Sesquicentennial.  Come and join the Village of Broadwell in celebrating their 150th Birthday!  The Abraham Lincoln Tourism Bureau of Logan County, the Broadwell Christian Church, the Pig Hip Museum, the Logan Railsplitting Association, and the Village of Broadwell will be coming together to bring this social community afternoon event to you.  More details are on the way, keep a close eye on the website version of our community calendar for more details!

Oct 14  Habitat for Humanity Annual Recognition Dinner / Dance. Habitat for Humanity will hold the dinner/dance at the American Legion on 5th Street in Lincoln. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., dinner is served at 6:00, and the recognition program and the dance are at 7:00.  In addition to recognizing those who have been significant supporters of Habitat during the year, this event is also a fund raiser for Habitat. Tickets may be purchased in advance at A.G. Edwards & Sons, MKS Jewelers, or by calling 217-732-2861.

Oct 17  Lincoln Masonic Lodge Meeting.  The Lincoln Masonic Lodge #210 will be meeting on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month at 7:00 PM.  Please contact the Lodge for more information.

Oct 19  Lincoln York Rite Bodies Meeting.  The Lincoln York Rite Bodies will be holding their monthly meetings on the third Thursday of each month.  The potluck will begin at 6:30, followed by the main meeting at 7:30.

Oct 21  Tour Elkhart Hill.  Come to Downtown Elkhart at 11 AM to catch the tour of Elkhart Hill.  This historic landmark will surely take your breath away as you ride to the top and back down, learning about the famous people and events that have been there as you go.  Tours are always weather permitting, and the group will return to the downtown area within a few hours.  Reservations are required, and the cost is $5 per person.  For more information, please call 217-947-2238

Oct 21   St. John United Church of Christ German Fest.  Held at 204 7th St. from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.  Spend an afternoon full of polka music and bratwursts.  Drive thru available.  Call 217-732-6957 for more information.

Oct 21  Knapp Library and Museum Annual Turkey Dinner.  The Knapp Library and Museum will be holding it’s annual turkey dinner this year in the Lincoln Community High School cafeteria in Lincoln, IL.  Come by from 4 to 7 pm to enjoy the fun and the food.  Call 217-732-7654 for more information.

Oct 21 & 22  ART SPECTACULAR! at the Carillon.  Artists from throughout the Midwest will gather on Saturday and Sunday, October 21 and 22 (Saturday 10-5; Sunday noon-5), for the first juried fine art & craft fair at the Carillon (Washington Park, Chatham Rd & Fayette St., Springfield, IL).  In addition to the visual enjoyment of beautiful artwork, the Carillon & invited musicians will fill the air with beautiful music throughout the event.  There will also be food vendors, and a kids' tent featuring art & music activities & art available to purchase.  Admission to the Art Fair is free, and the Kid’s Tent will be $1 each.  For more information please visit www.carillon-rees.org.

Oct 28  Harvest of Talents for World Hunger.  The Lincoln Christian Church Community Center at 204 N.  McLean Street will be hosting daylong activities benefiting the International Disaster Emergency Service. Enjoy crafts, entertainment, and home-cooked food, available for dine-in or carryout through the day.  Historic tours will also be available again this year, in conjunction with the Abraham Lincoln Tourism Bureau of Logan County.  Since its inception in 1983, Harvest of Talents has raised over $1,108,100 to feed the hungry around the world through International Disaster Emergency Services.  Call 217-732-7618 for more information.

Oct 28  Emden Cruise-In.  Drive on out to Emden to enjoy their Car Cruise-In.  There will be food and drinks, a 50/50 drawing, a raffle, and music!  Cars, trucks, and motorcycles are welcome.  Numerous door prizes, with a special women’s door prize at 8:00 PM.  For additional information, contact Bruce at 217-376-3187 or Jim at 217-376-3392.

Oct 28  Trick or Treat with the Mayor.  Starting at 10:00 AM in Downtown Lincoln, you can celebrate Halloween with Mayor Beth Davis!  Children (and parents) wishing to participate should meet at City Hall at 10 AM.  The group will then venture out to participating businesses to collect their treats. Oct 30  Halloween Fun Fest.  Come out to the Lincoln  Park District at 1400 Primm Road from 6:30 p.m. -8:30p.m.  Children from preschool to 6th grade are all invited to come and participate in this spook-tacular event.  There will be a costume contest held, and 15 different agencies will be there to provide games and informational booths.  Prizes and treats will be given to all.  Free admission.  Call 217-732-8770 for more information.

Nov 4 & 5  Holiday Open House.  All day long in Downtown Lincoln come to the Holiday Open House, hosted by Main Street Lincoln.  This Christmas Season kickoff will feature special events downtown!  For more information, please call Main Street Lincoln at 217-732-2929. 

Nov 5  Zonta Turkey Dinner.  Come to the Lincoln Community High School from 11 a.m.- 1:30 p.m. and enjoy a delicious home-cooked  meal. Bring all of your family and friends out to eat while helping to support the Health Career Scholarship Fund and other service projects.   Call 217-732-4758 for more information and for reservations.

Nov 7 & 21  Lincoln Masonic Lodge Meeting.  The Lincoln Masonic Lodge #210 will be meeting on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month at 7:00 PM.  Please contact the Lodge for more information.

Nov 8  Abraham Shrine #100 Meeting.  On the first Wednesday of each month, the Abraham Shrine #100 Order of White Shrine of Jerusalem will be holding their meetings.  Meetings begin at 7:30.

Nov 11  Veteran's Day Celebration Come to the Logan County Courthouse, in Lincoln and pay tribute to our veterans during the annual celebration on the courthouse lawn.  The VFW Post 1756 will be serving Ham and Beans following the Veteran’s Day Services.  Contact 217-732-3743 for more information.

Nov 11  A-Team Soup Supper.  The Atlanta A-Team will be holding their Soup Supper at the Atlanta Christian Church from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.  Entertainment in the form of a community band concert will be provided.  Contact Bill Thomas for more information 217-648-5077.

Nov 16  Lincoln York Rite Bodies Meeting.  The Lincoln York Rite Bodies will be holding their monthly meetings on the third Thursday of each month.  The potluck will begin at 6:30, followed by the main meeting at 7:30.

Nov 18 & 19  Christmas on Vinegar Hill.    All throughout Mt. Pulaski, come shop and browse at the annual celebration.  Citywide displays; homes, schools, churches, and businesses, crafts, and food.  Plan on spending the day and join in on all the holiday cheer.  Held annually the weekend before Thanksgiving from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. on Sat. and noon- 4 p.m. on Sunday.  Contact 217-792-5698 or visit www.mtpulaskiil.com for more information.

Nov 25  Pride of the Prairie Folk Art and Craft Show.  Kick off your holiday shopping here!  The Lincoln Park District (1400 Primm Road, Lincoln) proudly presents this annual event, featuring area artists and crafters bringing together a collection of their finest artisans and craftsmen.  Held from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Free admission.   Call 217-732-8770 for more information.

Dec 1 – 10  Festival of Trees.  Friendship Manor will be hosting their 2006 Festival of Trees from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM (daily) on December 1 – 10th.  All trees and wreaths will be sold as a Silent Auction.  Sheets will be placed with the trees and wreaths and anyone may bid at their leisure.  The highest bid on Sunday evening, December 10th, will be the winning bid of the individual trees or wreaths.  All proceeds go toward Lincoln/Logan Charities.  Meals will be served daily – dine in the midst of the glitter of Tensile Town and what a beautiful sight to see.  Fresh baked goods will be for sale throughout the festival.  Friendship Manor is located at 925 Primm Road, Lincoln, IL.

Dec 2  Christmas Open House.  Come out to the Postville Courthouse State Historic Site, 5th St. Lincoln from 12 - 4 p.m.  Take a step back in time and enjoy the period decorations of the holiday season Abraham Lincoln Style!!  Travel through Postville and reminisce about an era not forgotten.  Enjoy the music and light refreshments that will be served.  Please call 217-732-8930 for more information.

Dec 2  Christmas in the Chapel.  Come and join Elkhart in celebrating Christmas in the Chapel.  This annual event has drawn in visitors from across central Illinois.  There will be three services this year, at 4:00 PM, 5:30 PM, and 8:00 PM.  Reservations are required, and tickets will go on sale in November.  For more information, please call 217-947-2238.

Dec 2  Santa Comes to Town.  Santa Claus himself will be at the Mt. Pulaski Courthouse for the third annual Mt. Pulaski Santa Comes to Town.  Santa will be available to talk to the kiddies, for photos, and there will also be gifts, refreshments, and open businesses.

Dec 2  Christmas on the Hill.  Mt. Pulaski will be hosting it’s Fourth Annual Christmas on the Hill celebration, complete with Santa Claus, home tours, Christmas Tree auctions, and two (2) cash prize drawings.  (There will be two cash drawings - $250 & $100.  To register for the drawing, you need to be 16 years or older - go to the courthouse & fill out a card.  You need to be present to win.   Registration cards will only be given out at the courthouse that evening.   The drawing will be at 8 pm at Matt's Family Restaurant) Many businesses on the square will be open for your shopping enjoyment during this event.  Please visit www.mtpulaskiil.com for more information.

Dec 3  Christmas Parade.  Main Street Lincoln will be hosting the annual Christmas Parade in Lincoln, IL.  The Parade will begin at 2:00 PM.  This year’s theme is “Christmas on Candy Cane Lane.”  In the event of a cancellation, of the Parade, the alternate date will be December 10th.  For more information, please contact Main Street Lincoln at 217-732-2929.

Dec 5 Rules of the Road.  The Secretary of State’s office is now offering a Rules of the Road course free of charge to all interested parties.  The course will be held from 1 pm to 2 pm.  This course is designed to help you become a better/safer driver and to assist individuals who may have to take the written exam or the behind the wheel test administered by the drivers license facility.  No registration is required for this class.

Dec 10  Tour of Homes.  The Lincoln Christian Church will be hosting a Tour of Homes from 1 pm to 4 pm.  Come join the fun.  This year’s tour will feature the Postville Courthouse State Historic Site.
