10 sophomores receive Peacock Scholarship

[OCT. 9, 2006]  Ten Lincoln College sophomores have been awarded a H. Safford and Betty Peacock Foundation Scholarship at Lincoln College in Lincoln. This year's recipients are sophomores Andrew Darst of Galesburg, Amy Funk of Decatur, Mekenzie Lewis of Sullivan, Amy Ruffie of Batavia, Abigail Segal of Peoria, Joshua Stoudt of Moline, Justin Tierney of Lincoln, Jeffrey Tourville of Annawan, Brittany Webber of Lincoln and Kimberly Whitesell of Leroy.

Area scholarship recipients:


Justin Tierney

Tierney, son of John Tierney of Highland and the late Jean Tierney, is a 2005 Lincoln Community High School graduate. He is taking liberal arts courses at Lincoln College and plans to pursue a degree in sports information.


Brittany Webber

Webber is a 2005 Lincoln Community High School graduate. She is taking liberal arts courses at Lincoln College and working toward an associate degree. She plans to continue her education and major in business and finance at Illinois State University. She is the daughter of Paul and Lori Weber of Lincoln.


Amy Funk

Funk, the daughter of Steven and Carrie Funk of Decatur, is a 2005 graduate of Mount Zion High School. She is studying general education courses and plans to major in graphic design at a four-year university. She is active with the Lincoln College women's soccer team.

Mekenzie Lewis

Lewis, a 2005 graduate of Sullivan High School, is taking liberal arts classes at Lincoln College, with an emphasis in biological science courses. She was named to the fall 2005 dean's list and the spring 2006 special honors list. She is active with the Lincoln College swim team. She plans to continue her education at Eastern Illinois University, where she will major in exercise science. She is the daughter of Michelle Lewis of Sullivan.

The H. Safford and Betty Peacock Foundation Scholarship is awarded to students who have achieved academic honors. The scholarship was established by LC trustee emeritus H. Safford Peacock along with his wife, Betty Peacock, of Lincoln.
