Art Spectacular at the carillon          Send a link to a friend

[OCT 13, 2006]  SPRINGFIELD -- The Rees Carillon Society, the Carillon Belles and the Springfield Park District are sponsoring Art Spectacular at the Thomas Rees Memorial Carillon in Washington Park on Oct 21-22. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission to the art fair is free.

This is a juried fine art and craft fair featuring original artwork by 35 artists from six Midwestern states in a variety of artistic mediums, including acrylic, pencil, oil, watercolor, ceramics, fiber, glass, paper, sculpture, photography, printmaking, jewelry and wood. Featured artists include Robert Pasquesi of Elkhart with glass items and Lincoln's own pencil artist, Marsha L. Robinett.

Kids' Place is planned for ages 5-12, with admission of $1 and parent ID. Activities will include a variety of art activities, a $5-$10 art sale for kids, celebrity story readers and face painting. On Sunday afternoon from 1-4 Springfield police will do child fingerprinting.

Other features of the event are carillon music, strolling musicians and food vendors.

Avoid traffic congestion by parking at Sacred Heart-Griffin High School and enjoy a ride on the old-fashioned trolley to Washington Park. Donations will be accepted on the trolley. The high school is at Washington and Amos streets, one block east of Chatham Road and Bruns Lane. The park is at Chatham Road and Fayette Street.
