Lincoln AMVETS report       Send a link to a friend

[OCT. 14, 2006]  Lincoln AMVETS Post 71 recently met and discussed the Congressional Medal of Honor plaque that will be laid in All Veterans Park. The plaque will carry five names from this area and information that has been confirmed.

More bricks will be laid in the Veterans Honor Roll at the same time. Anyone who wishes to order a brick is urged to do so immediately to get in on this laying, which will perhaps be the last before spring. Forms are available from the container at the park or by calling 217-732-8829. Callers who get the answering machine are asked to leave their full name, complete address and how many forms they need, being very clear in stating the information.

Reports were given on all programs as follows:

  • Membership -- Only two members have dues to pay; 51 life and annual renewals paid

  • Americanism -- Veterans Honor Roll work; burial detail for military funerals; color guard at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Logan County Fair; and visits to veterans in nursing homes

  • Community service -- Volunteering at the local food pantry and donations to the pantry

  • Cards -- 31 miscellaneous cards sent in the last two months

  • Hospital -- Visitations and donations

  • Total evaluations -- $2,629.86 for this period
