Salvation Army begins holiday volunteer sign-ups

Needy family matchups and kettle bell-ringers sought          Send a link to a friend

[OCT. 20, 2006]  Salvation Army Capt. Sanders has issued a call for volunteers to assist with the upcoming holiday programs.

Immediate need will be for groups, families, individuals to become sponsors of a family or families in the Adopt a Family Christmas program. Matching of sponsors and families will begin in early November.

Those who agree to become a sponsor will have the opportunity to help a needy family in a more personal way by actually shopping for that family. Families will register their wish list with the local Salvation Army, and sponsors will then be able to "adopt" them. The program is anonymous, so there is no actual direct contact between sponsor and family.

The other great need is for groups or individuals who "adopt" a kettle site for a day or more. That would entail actually ringing the bell at the kettle site you choose. Shifts are available for four, eight or 12 hours.

For more information regarding the volunteer opportunities, please call The Salvation Army Keest Center, 732-7890, and speak with Sanders.
