William Ferguson

[SEPT. 5, 2006]  William "Bill" Eugene Ferguson, 75, formerly of Atlanta and Deland, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006, due to complications from Parkinson's disease. He and his wife had moved to Maple Ridge Care Centre in Lincoln in 2003.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Vernon Oakley officiating.

Burial will be in Atlanta Cemetery, rural Atlanta.

Mr. Ferguson was a lifelong farmer, herdsman, and sheep shearer.

He was born March 14, 1931, in Macon County to Frank and Beatrice Brelsfoard Ferguson. He married Darlene Baker at the Atlanta Methodist Church parsonage on Feb. 9, 1950.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years; two sons, George William (and Pam) Ferguson of White Bear Township, Minn., and Martin (and Lori) Ferguson of Gardner, Kan.; two daughters, Barb (and Brian) Beyer of Erie, Colo., and the Rev. Julie (and Randy) Azbell of Lincoln; a sister, Sheila (and Ed) Farrell of Venice, Fla.; five grandsons; five granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.

He was preceded in his parents and a daughter, Janice Collins of Normal.

He was a member of and deacon at the Deland Christian Church for many years.

He graduated from Atlanta High School with the class of 1949. He was active in FFA and showed sheep at the county and state fairs.

He loved anything related to farming, gospel music and his family.

Memorials may be made to the building fund of the Eminence Christian Church, his home church as a young man, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
