Blood drives          Send a link to a friend

[SEPT. 28, 2006]  Blood is needed every day in area hospitals for planned surgeries, cancer treatments and emergencies. Blood has only a 42-day shelf life, and hospitals must have all types on hand to provide for the safety of your friends, family and neighbors every day.

There are two upcoming opportunities in the community to help the local blood supply. On Monday, there will be a blood drive at the Lincoln Masonic Center, 2022 N. Kickapoo, from noon to 6 p.m. This blood drive is sponsored by Jefferson Street Christian Church. The second opportunity will be on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at Zion Lutheran School, 1600 Woodlawn. Blood collected at both blood drives will help the 19 hospitals that the Central Illinois Community Blood Center supplies.

When you donate blood, you help area hospitals prepare for all types of emergencies. Local community members are asked to come together to make the blood drives a success for local hospitals. To make it more convenient, schedule an appointment by calling Tara toll-free at 1-866-GIVE-BLD (1-866-448-3253), ext. 56. Of course, walk-ins are always welcome and sincerely appreciated.

The Springfield Clinic High School Challenge is under way. Donate blood at this blood drive and ask that your donation be credited to Lincoln High School or a school participating in the high school challenge. The winning school receives $1,000 scholarship to award to a graduating senior who plans on furthering his or her education. The challenge goes through May 11.
