[SEPT. 30, 2006]  Electric rates are expected to skyrocket this January. It is unknown just how much, but it could be as high as 50 percent, Alderman Buzz Busby said. The impact will be felt everywhere, but at the Lincoln the wastewater treatment plant, electricity is already running $12,000 per month. That would jump the cost to $16,000 to $18,000 per month, Busby said. He said he has been in contact with Ameren but could not get any better figures to work with to budget for the change.

The electricity used to operate the facility is paid through the wastewater management company the city subcontracts. The increase means renegotiating with the company that manages the wastewater treatment plant.

Temporary work on Fifth Street Road has been completed. The city streets department ground up the pavement on Monday, sealed it on Tuesday and laid the final coat on Wednesday.

The work was performed from Lincoln Parkway west to Connolley Road. The work stops there, as the section from Connolley to Picture This Photography belongs to the county.

Finance chairman Verl Prather said that the city is still pursuing the major renovation planned for the entire roadway.
