Students learned about health maintenance through
interactive participation and demonstrations, displays, and talks
with health and safety professionals. A favorite activity was
learning a few karate defense moves. Another was running the
Elementary Heart Adventure Challenge Course, which simulates the
blood's pathway through the body.
Students rotated through numerous stations, learning about a variety
of subjects. A few of these were the high school teen peers who
demonstrated the affect of smoking on the body; First Chiropractic,
which
was ready to show students the importance of good spinal health; and
a paramedic who explained and demonstrated blood pressure readings.
Classes also competed in a walking competition, with sports equipment
prizes provided by D.A.R.E., the Drug Abuse Resistance Education
program.
The health fairs are co-sponsored by the Lincoln Park District and
the Logan County Health Department.
