"Many people across Illinois travel to be with family and friends
for the Easter and Passover holidays," said Milt R. Sees, acting
secretary of the Department of Transportation. "IDOT is doing
everything we can to make sure travelers get to their destinations
safely and are not held up in work zones. The department will
suspend roadwork wherever possible to make for a smoother drive this
busy weekend." As families prepare to take their holiday trips,
the Illinois Department of Transportation also reminds motorists of
the following tips for fuel efficiency:
-
Make sure your engine
is properly tuned.
-
Check and replace air
filters on a regular basis.
-
Keep tires properly
inflated.
-
Use the recommended
grade of motor oil.
-
Do not exceed the
posted speed limit.
Motorists are advised to check
www.illinoisroads.info
for information regarding road conditions and updates on road
construction. Interstate road condition information is also
available at 1-800-452-IDOT (4368).
Various construction zones will be open for Easter weekend from 3
p.m. Friday through midnight Sunday. However, due to the nature of
some projects, there will be construction zones throughout the state
that will continue to operate. IDOT is urging motorists to slow down
and drive with caution through these work zones. Holiday travelers
are reminded that work zone speed limits are still in effect.
