A heat advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. Tuesday to 7 p.m. Thursday
for the counties of Knox, Stark, Peoria, Marshall, Woodford, Fulton,
Tazewell, McLean, Schuyler, Mason, Logan, DeWitt, Piatt, Champaign,
Vermilion, Cass, Menard, Scott, Morgan, Sangamon, Christian, Macon,
Moultrie, Douglas, Coles, Edgar, Shelby, Cumberland, Clark,
Effingham, Jasper, Crawford, Clay, Richland and Lawrence, including
the cities of Galesburg, Peoria, Bloomington, Normal, Havana,
Lincoln, Champaign, Urbana, Danville, Jacksonville, Springfield,
Taylorville, Decatur, Charleston, Mattoon, Shelbyville, Effingham,
Flora and Lawrenceville. High temperatures Tuesday afternoon
through Thursday afternoon will be in the middle to upper 90s, with
afternoon heat index values peaking at or above 105 degrees.
A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of high temperature and high humidity will
combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.
Drink plenty of water, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on neighbors and the elderly. Never leave pets
or children unattended in parked vehicles.
