Chemists to excite children's interests
at state fair

SPRINGFIELD -- The Illinois local sections of
the American Chemical Society will participate in the Illinois State
Fair, Aug. 10-19, with a public tent in the Conservation World area
of the fairground. This annual event allows for children of all ages
to have fun learning about chemistry.

The state fair project is sponsored jointly by the eight ACS
Illinois local sections. Activities will include hands-on activities
for children, science demonstrations, a computer quiz that awards
prizes, packets and CDs for teachers, and literature for the general
public.

The state fair project is an outreach program of the ACS Illinois
local sections developed to enhance the public's awareness of the
contributions of chemistry to our everyday lives and the nation's
