Lincoln/Logan County Hometown Day featured Sunday at the state fair Send a link to a friend

[August 09, 2007]  This year's state fair in Springfield will have a taste of home for Logan County residents. The Abraham Lincoln Tourism Bureau of Logan County has joined up with many other organizations throughout the county in order to host the Lincoln/Logan County Hometown Day on Sunday at the state fair. Local events, historic sites and organizations will be showcased throughout the day in a special tent near Gate 2 of the fairgrounds.

When the Abraham Lincoln Tourism Bureau of Logan County was first approached regarding the Hometown Day, the focus was on Lincoln; however, that quickly changed as Geoff Ladd, executive director, saw the opportunity to show off the whole county. "It was too good an opportunity to pass up," says Ladd. "Out of all the towns in the state of Illinois, they picked one in Logan County." Now the whole area has a chance to show what they have to offer.

Many different exhibitors will be in the tent with the tourism bureau, including the Logan Railsplitting Association, Main Street Lincoln, the National Weather Service, the Lincoln/Logan Chamber of Commerce Art & Balloon Festival, the Lincoln & Logan County Development Partnership, Postville Courthouse, and the Logan County Route 66 Heritage Foundation.

Volunteers from all the involved parties will be staffing the tent, and local talent will be performing on the stage. Featured entertainment includes the bands Leftover Biscutz and Vintage Daze. Of course, no Hometown Day for Logan County would be complete without Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln, who of course, will be present as well -- portrayed by Gary and Carol Simpkins of Heyworth.

The Illinois State Fair  begins Friday and continues until Aug. 19. The Hometown Day tent will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday near Gate 2 at the state fairgrounds in Springfield. We hope to see you there!
