Thursday announcement)
[August 09, 2007]
The National Weather Service in
Lincoln has canceled the heat advisory for the counties of Logan,
DeWitt, Piatt, Champaign, Vermilion, Cass, Menard, Scott, Morgan,
Sangamon, Christian and Macon, including the cities of Lincoln,
Champaign, Urbana, Danville, Jacksonville, Springfield, Taylorville
and Decatur. |
A weak cool front is expected to move across the area Thursday
bringing cloud cover and the threat for scattered thunderstorms. As
a result, temperatures will be held down some Thursday, at least in
comparison with the past several days when temperatures soared well
into the 90s. Afternoon highs Thursday will be in the upper 80s to
lower 90s, with slightly more tolerable humidity levels. A heat
advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday for the counties of
Moultrie, Douglas, Coles, Edgar, Shelby, Cumberland, Clark,
Effingham, Jasper, Crawford, Clay, Richland and Lawrence, including
the cities of Charleston, Mattoon, Shelbyville, Effingham, Flora and
Lawrenceville.

Hot and humid weather will continue to hold across central and
southeast Illinois through Thursday afternoon, with heat index
values around 105. A cool front will move across the area later
Thursday afternoon, and that may bring some temporary relief from
the heat and humidity as we head into Friday and the weekend.
A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of high temperature and high humidity will
combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.
Drink plenty of water, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on neighbors and the elderly. Never leave pets
or children unattended in parked vehicles.
