Pilot
program proves more convenient for employers to pay withholding
taxes
[August 13, 2007]
SPRINGFIELD -- Illinois
employers have flocked to a pilot program that allows them to pay,
without charge, both their federal and state withholding taxes
through an online federal payment system, according to Illinois
Department of Revenue Director Brian Hamer. Illinois was the only
state chosen by the U.S. Department of Treasury in 2006 to test the
Electronic Federal Tax Payment System. Since the Illinois Department
of Revenue launched the program in December, more than 105,000 state
withholding tax payments for more than $225 million have been
collected.
