County receives funding for Fifth Street Road improvements           Send a link to a friend

[August 17, 2007]  The Logan County Highway Department has been awarded $324,500 from the Highway Safety Improvement Program to be used on the rural portion of Fifth Street Road. The funds will be used to replace several box culverts between 225 Avenue and 500 Avenue in Sheridan Township that have protruding headwalls. Construction will be planned for 2008.

This funding was made available after an application process where projects from across the state were evaluated. The project was selected because this portion of Fifth Street Road has experienced several fatal and incapacitating injuries in the past five years. Removal of the concrete headwalls will improve the safety of the roadway.

Although funding is not yet available for the overall reconstruction of Fifth Street Road, these funds will be used to address specific safety issues along the roadway.

The highway department will continue to focus on improving road safety. By applying for state and federal programs, we hope to improve our roadways with a minimal cost to local taxpayers.
