Vet's dream coming true, walking Route 66          Send a link to a friend

[August 22, 2007]  Tom Behling, a disabled veteran from West Allis, Wis., is walking Route 66 from Chicago to California. He was in Lincoln on Wednesday when Geoff Ladd, the Abraham Lincoln Tourism Bureau of Logan County director, caught up with him at the "Green Monster" bridge over Salt Creek, just south of Lincoln.

Behling started his adventure about two weeks ago and is heading south. His next stop is a breather at the Pig Hip Restaurant marker in Broadwell and a visit with Ernie and Frances Edwards.

Behling has been wanting to travel Route 66 for over 40 years.
