NORMAL -- Life on the road is nothing
new to the Illinois State women's basketball team as half of its
games in the early part of the season have been away from Redbird
Arena. The Redbirds (5-1) are back on the road for a stretch with
two games in three days, beginning at Eastern Michigan (4-2) on
Sunday afternoon. ISU's next three games are not only all on the
road, but are also all against schools in the Mid-American
Conference.

The Redbirds are coming off their best offensive performance of the
season in an 82-51 win over Loyola on Nov. 29. The Redbirds, who are
averaging more points per game (78.2) through the first six games
than over a decade, eclipsed the 80-point mark for the third time
this year. The Redbirds led by 16 at halftime, 38-22, and got 40
points from their nonstarters, including a career-high 13 points by
junior forward Brea Banks. Sophomore forward Ashleen Bracey led the
'Birds with her first career double-double: a career-best 16 points
along with 10 rebounds. ISU also outrebounded Loyola 55-32, with 23
of those rebounds coming on the offensive end, and dished out a
season-best 24 assists. "It was nice to get some other players
minutes against Loyola and see them perform as well as they did,"
said head coach Robin Pingeton. "We were able to rest our starters
for most of the second half, which will help us with two games in
the next three days on the road."

Sunday's game is the second in the Illinois State-Eastern
Michigan series. The two teams first met last December at Redbird
Arena, with ISU coming away with a 68-55 victory. Kenyatta Shelton
recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, and Kristi
Cirone and Maggie Krick each chipped in 15 points.
