Family of Three Injured in Single-Vehicle Crash on Route 136

[December 03, 2007]  SPRINGFIELD -- Three people from Oakbrook were injured when their vehicle left an icy road to the west of San Jose at 9:16 a.m. Saturday morning. Adalberto Avitia, 52, Yolanda Avitia, 47, and Christian B. Avitia, 19, were traveling in a white 1999 Ford Econoline van. They were westbound on U.S. Route 136, approximately 0.40 mile west of County Road 2800 East.

Adalberto was driving. He failed to maintain control of the vehicle, and it traveled off the roadway into the north ditch area. The vehicle overturned in the ditch and came to rest on its driver's side.

Christian B. Avitia was ejected from the vehicle.

Yolanda Avitia suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported by Mason County Ambulance to Mason District Hospital in Havana before being transferred to St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Adalberto Avitia complained of injury. He and Christian suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Mason District Hospital by Mason County Ambulance.

Agencies assisting the Illinois State Police were the Mason County Sheriff's Department, Mason County Ambulance, Easton Fire Department and Illinois Department of Transportation.

The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
