[December 03, 2007]  A single-vehicle crash claimed the life of Chad S. Twente, 27, of New Holland on Saturday afternoon.

Twente and a friend, Michael Virgil, 51, of Middletown were just east of Middletown at 3:02 p.m., on their way to do some deer hunting.

Twente was driving a pickup at 350th Avenue, one-quarter mile north of 1300 Street in Corwin Township. Roadways were extremely slick at that time. The vehicle apparently left the roadway and rolled over. Twente was thrown from the vehicle.

Illinois State Police accident investigators postponed a reconstruction of the crash, as conditions were not safe enough to go out at that time, Logan County Sheriff's Department chief deputy Rick Bacon said.

The Logan County Sheriff's Department, Logan County Paramedic Association, Middletown Fire and Rescue, New Holland Rescue, and Life Flight were called to the scene.

Twente was deemed not stable enough to transport by air and was taken to ALMH by ambulance. He received resuscitating treatment en route, but was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

Coroner Bob Thomas said that an autopsy was to be performed.
