With the hustle and bustle of
the holiday season upon us, recycling is probably the last thing on
anyone's mind, Even so, the Logan County Joint Solid Waste Agency
would like to share a few recycling reminders for the holidays.
|
The Logan County Joint Solid Waste Agency does not
accept cardboard at its recycling collection sites at any time of
the year. Cardboard packaging and gift wrap should be disposed of
with your regular trash collection. Clean packing and shipping
materials such as styrofoam peanuts and bubble wrap may be taken to
AMP Studios Copy and Shipping Center, 205 S. Sangamon St. in
Lincoln, where the materials will be reused.
-
Instead of buying gift wrap, consider wrapping gifts in the
comic section of the Sunday newspaper. Let children design their
own unique gift wrap using paper bags stamped with holiday
designs. Reuse gifts bags instead of buying new ones.
-
When
buying batteries for toys and electronics, think rechargeable.
While initial costs may be higher than regular batteries,
rechargeable batteries will save money in the long run.
-
Consider donating old toys, computer equipment and household
items that are in good condition to a local charity when making
room for new items received during the holiday season.

-
The
Lincoln Streets and Alleys Department will pick up Christmas
trees during the second week of January. Watch for more details
and dispose of your tree in an environmentally friendly way.
-
Recycling opportunities are available year-round. Collection
sites for paper, plastics and metals are located in nearly every
incorporated and unincorporated area of the county. Use them.
Contact the Logan County Joint Solid Waste Agency at
732-9636 for more information on the recycling efforts in Logan
County.
Happy holidays!
