[December 08, 2007]  (AP) A trough of low pressure will sweep into the West Saturday, bringing more rain into Southern California, Arizona and New Mexico.

Snow showers were expected at higher elevations in those areas. Heavier snow was expected to fall in Idaho and Wyoming, with snow also anticipated in the Northwest, the Rockies, the Plains and New England.

Elsewhere, a weakening front stretching from the Mississippi Valley through the Mid-Atlantic was to bring rain to that region into the late morning. A high pressure system from the north was expected to put an end to the precipitation.

Temperatures in the Northeast will rise into the 30s and 40s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. The Northern Plains and Upper Midwest will rise only between the single digits to the 20s, while the Northwest will see temperatures in the 20s and 30s east of the Cascades and in the 40s west of the mountains.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states ranged Friday from a low of -20 degrees at Hallock, Minn., to a high of 89 degrees at Laredo, Texas.
