[December 11, 2007]  NAPERVILLE -- Competing among some of the elite teams in the state of Illinois, the Lincoln Community High School speech team finished 11th of 30 teams at Naperville Central; however, the LCHS team did advance a record six events into the final round of the tournament.

Annie Sheley was second in radio speaking and third in special occasion speaking. Todd Schumacher was third in original comedy, and Janel Filbeck finished fourth in oratory. Kaylyn Engelhardt and Kelly Knecht placed sixth in humorous duet, and Taylor Muck was a finalist in verse.

Coach's comments: "This tournament is always a good test for our team, and they rose to the occasion. We had more finalists this year than ever before, and of the six, four of them took first-place ranks in the final rounds. All in all, we are developing nicely and have a very solid group of speakers."
