[December 12, 2007]  SPRINGFIELD -- On Tuesday at approximately 2:10 p.m., a District 9 trooper stopped a 1999 Ford Expedition for a traffic violation on Interstate 55 southbound at milepost 104, near Sherman. During the traffic stop, the trooper became suspicious of the presence of narcotics.

Consent to search was granted by the vehicle's owner.

The trooper discovered 46 pounds of cannabis inside the vehicle. Two subjects were arrested and charged with possession of cannabis, manufacture-delivery of cannabis, and calculated criminal cannabis conspiracy.

People involved were Misael Sotelo, 25, and Alfonso Guadalupe Sotelo-Arizmendi, 23, both of Fairmont City. Both subjects were lodged at the Sangamon County Jail.

The public is reminded that anyone is presumed innocent until charges are proven in a court of law.
