Snow Advisory Issued for Logan County

Winter Storm Threatens Central, East-Central and Southeast Illinois Saturday and Saturday Night

[December 14, 2007]  A storm system is expected to push out of the southern Plains and head to central Illinois on Saturday, bringing periods of snow to the area. Southeast Illinois will experience snow, sleet and freezing rain Saturday before a changeover to snow Saturday night, with significant accumulations possible by late Saturday night.

Snow advisory

The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a snow advisory in effect from 6 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday for the counties of Knox, Stark, Peoria, Marshall, Woodford, Fulton, Tazewell, McLean, Schuyler, Mason, Logan, DeWitt, Cass, Menard, Scott, Morgan and Sangamon, including the cities of Galesburg, Peoria, Bloomington, Normal, Havana, Lincoln, Jacksonville and Springfield.

Snow is expected to develop west of Interstate 55 Saturday between 2 and 6 a.m., with periods of snow expected to continue to spread east over the remainder of the area during the morning. By the time the storm pulls off to our east late Saturday night, the total snow accumulation will range from 3 to 5 inches.

A snow advisory means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.

Winter storm warning

The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a winter storm warning in effect from 6 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday for the counties of Piatt, Champaign, Vermilion, Christian, Macon, Moultrie, Douglas, Coles, Edgar, Shelby, Cumberland, Clark, Effingham, Jasper, Crawford, Clay, Richland and Lawrence, including the cities of Champaign, Urbana, Danville, Taylorville, Decatur, Charleston, Mattoon, Shelbyville, Effingham, Flora and Lawrenceville.

Snow is expected to develop across parts of east-central and southeast Illinois Saturday morning. The snow may become mixed with or change to freezing rain along the Interstate 70 corridor. The mixed precipitation will change back to snow Saturday evening, with storm total snowfall in the 6- to 8-inch range by early Sunday morning,

A winter storm warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice are expected or occurring, and strong winds are also possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
