[December 21, 2007]  (AP) Forecasters predicted heavy rain and thunderstorms in the Southeast and heavy snow in western Colorado on Friday, while the Northeast was expected to be mostly clear and dry.

Besides the heavy snow in the western part of the state, a few bursts were possible in eastern Colorado and into the Central Plains. Denver could see about 2 inches as temperatures remain in the lower 30s.

The West Coast was expected to get a dry day after a week of showers and heavy rain. Temperatures in the Northwest were expected to be chilly, but California temperatures should be normal for mid-December.

In the Southeast, heavy rain and thunderstorms were expected.

The Northeast was expected to be chilly but dry and clear to partly cloudy. A few showers were possible in central Pennsylvania.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Thursday ranged from a low of minus 6 degrees at Alamosa, Colo., to a high of 89 degrees at McAllen, Texas.
