Logan County Events

Feb – Mar  Story Time Classes.  Lincoln Public Library District will hold three different Story Time classes for 6 mon. – 2 year olds, 3 & 4 year olds, and 5 –7 year olds through the months of February and March. There is no charge, but registration is necessary for accurate planning.  Call the Youth Services Department for times and days at 732-5732 or to register.

Feb 3  Logan County Friends of NRA Banquet & Auction.  The NRA would like to invite Logan County to attend their 15th Annual Banquet and Auction on February 3, 2007 at the Knights of Columbus Hall.  Doors will open at 5:00 PM and dinner will be served at 6:30 PM.  Tickets are $30 each.  The Friends of the NRA are still looking for sponsors for this event.  If you, or your business, are interested, please contact 217-732-7078.  This year’s program features live and silent auctions, special drawings & games featuring guns, exclusive art, unique merchandise and a great prime rib dinner, served by Warren Wendlandt.  For more information, please call 217-732-7078.

Feb 3  Pancake and Sausage Breakfast.  Zion Lutheran School will be holding their Pancake and Sausage Breakfast from 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM.  Tickets are available in advance or at the door.  Also at the event will be a meat room, silent auction, and a bake sale.  Carryouts will be available.  Call Zion Lutheran School at 217-732-3977 for more information and ticket prices.

Feb 5  Blood Drive.  Come donate the gift of life at the Lincoln Masonic Center (located at 2022 N. Kickapoo Street) from Noon until 6:00pm.  This blood drive is sponsored by Lincoln Rotary Club.  All blood collected at this blood drive supports Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Feb 6  Reader’s Theater.  Readers Theater is back at the Lincoln Public Library District!  This class for ages 8 – 12 year olds will be held on Tuesdays from 3:30 – 5:00 PM beginning February 6.  A performance will be scheduled at the conclusion of the sessions.

Feb 8  Craft Classes.  Lincoln Public Library District will hold Craft Classes for 8 – 12 year olds on Thursdays at 3:30 beginning February 8.  There is no charge, but registration is necessary for accurate planning.  Call the Youth Services Department to register.

Feb 10  Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday Party.  Postville Courthouse will once again be celebrating Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday in style, and the public is invited to attend!  Guy Fraker, a Bloomington attorney and author will do a power point presentation on Abraham Lincoln and the 8th Judicial Circuit.  Postville volunteers will be conducting tours and will be serving birthday cake and punch.  Period music will be playing throughout the event, and storyteller/musician Mike Anderson will also perform.  The Arts and Craft Guild will have their children’s event from 10 AM to 12 PM in the historic courtroom.  Contest winners will also be announced.  Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln interpreters will be on hand to greet you.  The hours for the event are 10 AM to 4 PM.  This event is free to the public, but donations will be accepted.  For more information, call 217-732-8930 or 217-737-0979.

Feb 11  Looking for Lincoln Dinner.  Come out to the Maple Club to celebrate Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday with this wonderful dinner!  The Looking for Lincoln Dinner will start at 6:30 PM, and tickets will be on sale soon at Lincoln College, Main Street Lincoln, and the Abraham Lincoln Tourism Bureau of Logan County.  This year’s speaker is Mr. Dan Weinberg, the owner of the Abraham Lincoln Bookstore in Chicago, IL.  He has written books on the subject, and will be discussing some of the odd items that he has run across in his business.  Mr. Weinberg also serves alongside Ron Keller and Paul Beaver as an advisory member of the Bicentennial Commission.  For more information, please contact 217-732-2929 or 217-732-2898.

Feb 16, 17, 18, 23, & 24  Mystery Ink: Mardi Gras Madness.  Join the Mystery Ink Players for a Mardi Gras celebration with a little madness, music, food and mystery.  Sunday doors open at 6:30 PM, Sunday doors open at 1:00 PM.  Tickets are $35 per person, $32 for Seniors.  Groups of 10 or more may receive the group rate of $30 per person.  Tickets include fresh baked bread, salad, choice of entrée, and dessert as well as coffee/tea, tax and gratuity.  A cash bar is available.  For tickets or more information, please call 217-732-6102.

Mar 3  Coin Show.  The Railsplitter Coin Club will be hosting their Spring Coin Show on Saturday, March 3, 2007.  Admission is free, and it will be held at Rusty’s Clubhouse and Grill (2810 Woodlawn Road, Lincoln).  Rusty’s will have their full menu available.  The show begins at 9:00 AM and will end at 4:00 PM.  So if you’re interested in picking up some nifty coins for your collection, or just finding out what makes the art of coin collecting so much fun, come out to Rusty’s for the Spring Coin Show.  For more information, please call 217-732-7069.

Mar 3  Kiwanis Club Annual Ham and Bean Dinner.  Held at the American Legion Hall (1740 Fifth St., Lincoln) from 11 AM to 3 PM, tickets are $6.50 per person for adults.  Children 6 and younger are free!  Your drink and dessert are included and carryouts are available.  For more information, please call 217-735-4977.

Mar 5  Blood Drive.  Come give the gift of life at the Immanuel Lutheran Church (located at 1409 Pulaski) from Noon until 6:00pm.  This blood drive currently has no sponsor.  All blood collected at this blood drive supports Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Mar 21  Ag Day Breakfast.  The Lincoln/Logan County Ag Day 2007 will be held at the Laughlin Center, Lincoln Christian College.  Sponsorships are still available, so please contact the Chamber of Commerce at 217-735-2385 before January 31st for sponsorship arrangements.

Mar 31  “Cheeseburger in Paradise” Night.  Do you like yours with lettuce and tomato? Join us for a night of fun! CIEDC is hosting a “Cheeseburger in Paradise” night at the American Legion! The event is being coordinated to raise funds for the Senior Nutrition and Transportation Programs at CIEDC. More details to come but save the date NOW!

Apr 2  Blood Drive.  Come give the gift of life at the Lincoln Masonic Center (located at 2022 N. Kickapoo Street) from Noon until 6:00pm.  This blood drive is sponsored by Lincoln Women's Club and Lincoln Jr. Women's Club.  All blood collected at this blood drive supports Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Apr 20  20th Anniversary Celebration.  The Abraham Lincoln Tourism Bureau of Logan County will be celebrating their 20th Anniversary on Friday April 20, 2007!  Come out to the Maple Club and help us celebrate this event!  More information will be in March’s calendar.  For more information, please call 217-732-8687.

Jun 9 & 10  Broadwell’s 150th Birthday Celebration.  The Village of Broadwell will be celebrating their 150th Birthday on June 9 & 10, 2007 with fun and excitement.  Ernie Edwards, owner and manager of the Pig Hip Museum, has promised a surprise for guests.  Could it be the world famous P.H.S???  Ernie has also invited everyone to share in his birthday cake.  More details on this event will be coming soon.

Jun 15 – 17, 2007  Middletown Terquasquicentennial (175th Birthday Party).  Details coming soon!

Jul 4 – 7, 2007  Heritage Days.  Celebrate our heritage in Lincoln, Illinois with this fun event.  Dancing, shopping, games and more will be available throughout downtown Lincoln.

Jul 27 & 28  Thunderbird Convention.  Come on out to Historic Lawndale to enjoy a weekend of fun!  This year marks the 30th Anniversary of the legendary thunderbird attacks in Lawndale, and the sightings throughout the state.  To celebrate, the Abraham Lincoln Tourism Bureau of Logan County, Cryptozologist Scott Maruna, and the Camarilla Fanclub will be putting on a weekend convention full of exciting talks, vendors, and community events.  For more information, please call the Information Station at 217-732-8687.

Jul 31 – Aug 5, 2007  Logan County Fair.  Come and relax and enjoy the Best of Logan County!  Daily activities include 4-H shows, a queen pageant, live entertainment, and a carnival full of food, games, & displays.  For more information, call 217-732-3311.

Aug 24 – 26, 2007  Lincoln Art and Balloon Festival.  Come out to the Airport in Logan County to experience the beauty and wonder of Hot Air Balloons in flight.  Downtown, see all of the art vendors and pick up some beautiful pieces.  Activities include several balloon launches, evening balloon glows, musical entertainment, food, an art and craft show, the Art of Wine, and much more.  For more information, please call 217-735-2385.

Aug 26, 2007  1800’s Craft Fair.  Postville Courthouse will once again be hosting their 1800’s Craft Fair on the final day of the Lincoln Art and Balloon Festival.  The Public is invited to come and see 19th century crafters from surrounding areas demonstrating their skills.  Local crafters are also included.  Music and other entertainment will be provided.  Call 217-732-8930 or 217-737-0979 for more information.

Nov 24, 2007  Pride of the Prairie Folk Art and Craft Show.  Kick off your holiday shopping here!  The Lincoln Park District proudly presents this annual event, featuring area artists and crafters bringing together a collection of their finest artisans and craftsmen.  The doors will open at 8 AM and close at 4 PM.  For more information, call 217-732-8770.

Logan County Meetings

Feb 2, 9, 16, & 23  Leadership Academy.  The Lincoln/Logan County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Academy will be meeting every Friday, starting January 19th.  For more information regarding the Leadership Academy and how to join, please call 217-735-2385.

Feb 15  Lincoln Jaycee’s Meeting.  The Lincoln Jaycees will be meeting on the third Thursday of every month at 7 PM at the Moose Lodge. Guests and those interested in joining are welcome to attend!  More information can be found at www.lincolnjaycees.com.

Feb 19  LCGHS Meeting.  The Logan County Genealogical and Historical Society would like to invite the public to attend their monthly meeting on February 19, 2007 at 6:30 PM.  The topic for this month will be “Who Inspired Langston Hughes?”  Come on out to 114 N.
