[February 21, 2007] After a 15-week period, the overall individual winner of the CIEDC Team Wellness Challenge was announced on Feb. 15. Cheryl Acup, a CIEDC Head Start teacher at the Logan 2 site, earned the most miles of all individuals who participated in the program.

The winning team members were Carla Bagwell, Angelia Hobbs, Vickie Schlattweiler, Carol Kincaid and Heather Brown.

The CIEDC Team Wellness Challenge was announced during an all-staff meeting in October. Each employee was assigned to a team and charged with the mission to earn "miles" for each healthy activity they incorporated into their lives during the 15-week program. Employees earned miles for incorporating fruits, vegetables and water into their daily lives. They also earned miles for strength training, aerobic activities and more.

The team with the most miles earned received a day off work, and the individual winner received a prize package. Other employees in the program were recognized with certificates for their participation.

"Being part of the wellness challenge has really improved my quality of life, and I have a more positive attitude now," Acup said. "My husband has also been working out with me and has lost weight as a result. My co-workers were very supportive, making sure that every day I was drinking my water and keeping it up."

CIEDC is a Community Action agency serving low-income people, children and seniors in a six-county service area. For more information, visit www.ciedc.org.
