What's a pop-shuvit?

Skate park meeting Thursday morning        Send a link to a friend

[JAN. 8, 2007]  The pop-shuvit. The what? you might ask. That is our vocabulary word for this article. The pop-shuvit is a maneuver that skateboarders perform by strategically placing their feet on their board and flipping it into midair, then stopping the rotation to make it land upright and continue in a forward motion.

How did you do that? That is one of the most frequent questions that skateboarders ask one another about a difficult or over-the-top maneuver on a skateboard. Our goal in the community is to have others asking that same question about our vision for a skate park. Volunteers are needed to take this from a concept to a reality.

A meeting for the development of a skate park will be at 7 a.m. Thursday at the Lincoln Park District Rec Center, 1400 Primm Road. This will be a meeting of the committee as a whole on the second and fourth weeks of the month, with subcommittees meeting on the first and third weeks. Subcommittees will set their own meeting times. Discussions will include fundraising ideas and choosing dates and times for these events.

Anyone interested in being a part of this committee is invited to attend.

If you have any questions, please call 732-8770 and ask for Marcia or Roy.
