Scholarship fund welcomes contributions for the double project

[JAN. 20, 2007]  MIDDLETOWN -- Middletown's 175th Book/Scholarship Fund welcomes contributions for the double project.

About the book

Do you know who the Snow Birds were? Do you know why the Vin Fiz, the first plane ever to fly across America, landed in Middletown? Who was the Indian who helped Abe Lincoln and Michael Killion survey through Middletown in 1834? How many autos were in Middletown in 1910? In 1984, how did balloon pilot John Petrehn of Overland Park, Kan., set five hot-air balloon world records?

Answers to these questions, along with interesting and humorous details of family living, will be found in the book to be published to celebrate Middletown's 175th birthday in 2007. "Memories of Middletown, 1832-2007" is scheduled for publication May 1.

The deadline for family histories is Feb. 1, and those participating are urged to send in the articles and photos as soon as possible. Submissions from computer to computer can be sent to Pat Glenn, glenn@ccaonline.com.

Memorials and ads may be procured also. For more information, please telephone 217-445-2708. Brochures are available by mail, at the Middletown State Bank, the Middletown post office or from a member of the publishing committee: Esther Boward, Marilyn Deters, Sandy Fielden, Pat Glenn, Wini Golden, Chris Haney, Carol Johnson, Ellen Mason, Joyce Skelton, Jackie Sullivan, Saundra Swarts, Marcy Trowbridge and Terri Urish.
