[JAN. 31, 2007]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Soup's on

The Oasis will serve soup on Thursday, beginning at 11:30 a.m. The donation will be 50 cents per bowl.

Bingo sponsored by Maple Ridge

Maple Ridge Care Centre will sponsor the bingo games on Thursday, beginning at 1 p.m. Come join the fun and win some prizes.

Book club

The senior center's book club will meet Monday at 1 p.m. Come rekindle the rewards of reading a book and either sharing your thoughts with the group or just sitting back and listening to others. Refreshments provided. Bring a friend and enjoy reading.

Meeters and Greeters

The Meeters and Greeters group will meet Monday at 2 p.m. This group of volunteers visits once a month with those who cannot get out, to add a bright spot in their life. If you would like to participate or would like more information, call 732-6132 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Belles meet

The Red Hat group will meet at the senior center on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Please call 732-6132 to make lunch reservation by noon Monday. Put on your red hat and come join the lively bunch of ladies!

Rules of the Road course

The secretary of state's office continues to offer a Rules of the Road course free of charge to all interested parties. The course is scheduled for Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the senior center. The course is designed to assist individuals who may have to take a written exam or the behind-the-wheel test. For more information, please call 732-6132.

Tax time help

The Oasis has partnered with the IRS through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program to offer free tax assistance. The Oasis will offer this service during the 2007 tax filing season as an electronic filing site. The service will be offered Monday, Wednesday and Friday. For more information and to make and appointment, please call 732-6132.

Area Agency on Aging information site

The Department of Aging, in conjunction with The Oasis, provides information for several programs: Illinois Cares Rx, which provides information assistance with prescriptions; Medicare Part D; Senior Health Insurance Program, which provides assistance with insurance forms, Medicare supplement and long-term care insurance, retiree health plans and claims; and information and assistance for caregivers. Tuesday's lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for Feb. 6 features hard-shell tacos, salad, dessert and a drink for only $3.75, or $3.25 if you stay and play cards. Deadline is noon Monday.

Winners for the week

Bernie Haley and Betty Oltmanns were the weekday pinochle winners, and the weekend pinochle winners were Charles Anderson and Linda Hughes. The winners at five in one were Betty Burger and Bernie DePuy. Congratulations.
