Lincoln Park District continues to offer great
summer fun, this time in an outdoor adventure called "A Day in the
Woods." Meet us in Memorial Park on July 12 at 9 a.m. Carol Thompson
from Weldon Springs State Park is our tour guide and will introduce
us to everything Mother Nature has to reveal. Birding, tree
identification, bugs and anything else that we uncover will be our
focus. While our "junior naturalists" are exploring, lunch will be
prepared over the open fire. Roast, potatoes and carrots will be
cooked in cast-iron Dutch ovens.

Children entering first through third grades will be excused at 1
p.m. Those entering fourth through sixth grades will stay until 3
p.m. Cost is $8 per child in district. Insect repellent and long
pants with comfortable tennis-style shoes are suggested. Parents and
guardians are responsible for transportation to and from Memorial
Park.
While we hope summer is a fun time, let's not forget our
four-legged friends. A dog obedience class is scheduled to begin
July 15. Mike Bieser, master trainer and owner of Canine Training
Institute, will be the instructor. Covered will be "sit," "lay" and
leading on a leash. Owners or handlers must be at least 8 years of
age. Proof of inoculation is required at the time of registration.
Classes begin at 2 p.m. and will be for four weeks. Cost is $50 in
district.
