The nation's weather          Send a link to a friend

[July 03, 2007]  (AP) It was a warm and clear early summer day in the West Tuesday, but stormy weather dominated the East and the nation's midsection.

A cold front moving eastward through the Plains and parts of the Upper Mississippi Valley produced scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. Severe storms developed along the tail end of the front in the Southern Rockies and High Plains. Large hail fell in the Oklahoma Panhandle.

Showers and thunderstorms also fell in the Southern Plains, Mid-Atlantic and Southeast as Gulf moisture streamed across the eastern two-thirds of the country. Flooding was reported in eastern Oklahoma and Texas.

Temperatures warmed into the 70s and 80s in the West, and the desert Southwest reached the 90s and 100s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a morning low of 25 degrees at Stanley, Idaho to a midday high of 109 degrees at Gila Bend, Ariz.
