[July 07, 2007]  (AP) Dry weather spread across the Plains Friday, while an intense heat wave continued to push temperatures into the triple digits in the West.

Heat also continued in the Southwest and Great Basin, but coastal fog helped cool areas close to the water.

Showers and thunderstorms hit the Northeast during the late afternoon. Some produced strong winds and large hail.

The Northeast rose into the 70s and 80s, while the Southeast had temperatures in the 80s and 90s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday ranged from a morning low of 41 degrees at Stanley, Idaho to a midday high of 113 degrees at Barstow, Calif.
