(8:59 a.m. Wednesday announcement)

[July 18, 2007]  This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of central Illinois:

Wednesday and Wednesday night

As in the past several days, thunderstorms are expected to redevelop late Wednesday afternoon and evening to the north of Interstate 74. A few of these storms may become severe, with the storms organizing into a line later in the evening and moving across central Illinois. The main threat from these storms will be damaging winds, with large hail possible. A moderate risk has been identified over the area for these thunderstorms late Wednesday afternoon and into the evening. Additional rainfall Wednesday and Wednesday night over already rain-soaked areas could lead to localized flooding.

Thursday through Tuesday

A strong upper-level disturbance will move across the upper Midwest on Thursday, sweeping a cold front and a final round of thunderstorms through central and southeast Illinois. Severe weather will be possible on Thursday, with damaging winds and large hail the primary threats. Localized flooding will again be possible, especially in areas already well-saturated by previous rainfall.

The weekend looks mild and dry, and no hazardous weather is expected Friday or beyond.

Spotter information statement

Spotter activation may be required Wednesday and Wednesday night, especially for areas north of I-72.
