County
looking at new financial software
[July 25, 2007]
At the special meeting of the
county board's finance committee Tuesday night, members learned that
the 2004-2005 audit is still incomplete. Chairman Chuck Ruben
informed the committee that Christine Torres from the Crowe Chizek
office, who is responsible for the Logan County work, is on vacation
this week. Ruben anticipates receiving a progress report from John
Weber of Crowe Chizek on Aug. 2.

At this time Ruben hopes that there will be a draft of the audit for
the Aug. 17 committee meeting, with a final draft to go before the
board on Aug. 21. The current 2005-2006 audit that is in process
under Clifton Gunderson cannot be completed until the prior audit is
complete.
In other action the committee heard from Mary Bruns, county
treasurer. She desires to introduce new software into the
treasurer's office to replace the Tectura product currently used.
Robert Helvey and John Varadian with WTI Systems were on hand to
explain their software proposal to the group. They are the largest
suppliers of accounting systems to county offices in Illinois,
currently supporting the city of Lincoln for 21 years. They
specialize in budget software and have seven consultants on staff,
all being CPAs.

Total cost of the new software is $122,046.40, of which $59,000
is for installation, setup and training.
After a lengthy question-and-answer session, the committee voted
5-0 to send the recommendation to purchase this software on to the
full county board for approval.
Ruben also announced that he would like for the committee to
start work on the budget for 2007-2008 fiscal year. Budget
worksheets are going out to all county departments. The decision on
when to schedule budget hearings is to be made at the August finance
committee meeting.
