Statement from Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich on lack of quorum          Send a link to a friend

[July 30, 2007]  SPRINGFIELD -- The following statement from Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich was released Saturday regarding the lack of a quorum for consideration of an interim budget:

"I’m disappointed that with just three days left before the interim state budget expires, the House had only 55 of 118 members present today, far short of the constitutionally-required quorum. We’re now a record two months into overtime, and the legislature still hasn’t sent me a budget that invests in education and health care. That’s why yesterday I called for another one-month budget. Failure to pass another interim budget will mean that state government shuts down and only emergency public safety services will continue to operate. Schools will have to start their school years without the state funding they rely on, and thousands of state employees will not get paid. If the General Assembly does not finish its work soon, the people of Illinois will pay the price of their inaction."
