[June 05, 2007]  (AP) Rain fell across most of the nation's midsection Tuesday, while the coasts were dry and sunny.

Rain and numerous thunderstorms swept across an area east of the Rockies to the Mississippi Valley, causing flooding in parts of the Plains and bringing hail and gusty winds over the Central Plains. Hail up to 2.5 inches fell in Elbert, Colo.

Isolated rain showers fell over the Mid-Atlantic states, as well as parts of southern Florida.

The rest of the East was sunny and warm. The West also saw warm temperatures and clear skies. The warmest region was the Desert Southwest, where temperatures soared into the 90s in the afternoon.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of 21 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 97 degrees at Wink, Texas.
