[June 06, 2007]  (AP) Forecasters predicted severe weather in parts of the central U.S. on Wednesday, and rain and thunderstorms were expected in parts of New England and the Mid-Atlantic.

Widespread showers and thunderstorms were expected in the Plains and Mississippi Valley, with severe thunderstorms possible in the southern Plains. A few tornadoes and large hail with locally damaging winds were possible.

In the Northeast, New England was expected to get light to moderate rain with scattered thunderstorms.

Isolated showers and thunderstorms were expected over parts of the Mid-Atlantic, while the rest of the East was expected to be warm and dry.

In the West, mostly clear, dry, sunny weather was expected.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of 20 degrees at Cora, Wyo., to a high of 111 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
